At age 47 I started getting weight rapidly. I blamed it on a significant lifestyle change – I went back to college! I decided to get my masters degree in order to teach the local community college plus, I thought it might be fun. It was but now instead of playing tennis working on projects at the house or working out at the local YMCA I was now teaching full-time at the high school and attending night classes at a state university 45 minutes away to say that I was sedentary is an understatement so I would get up a few hours earlier and work out. I made sure to eat sensibly and avoid snacking or sugary drinks lots and lots of water, but the weight kept packing on. I attributed the weight gain to stress once I graduated at 49 my stress was much lower and I could work out twice a day , but my weight continued decline during the next two years I continue to diet and exercise to the point of exhaustion, my weight continued to climb. I begin to pack on the Pound so rabidly that one day my pants split while I was teaching my high school English class. What was I doing wrong it made no sense whatsoever. I finally asked my doctor what to do her answer move more eat less wait what you heard me – move more eat less , I felt the sudden urge to stand up loft the chair over my head and throw it out the window. Paragraph the revelation

I’d had desperate times call for desperate measures. I started googling the wisdom of the Internet. That’s when I found intermittent fasting advice for women over 50.

Are you a woman over 50 exhausted confused and at your wits end in your quest to lose weight then keep reading… Eat less move more and other bad advice.

There was a time when the calories in calories out approach was all the rage it’s logical it makes sense. We can calculate it same thing with the food pyramid that makes us that makes you fat right it’s logical. It makes perfect sense. If you can’t lose weight, you must be doing something wrong. You can’t control yourself. You are weak and need to do better , you must be eating too much or not working out enough

Nothing could be further from the truth in this logical mathematical equation. We forgot to factor in one thing: the bodies natural processes when it comes to food and hormone balance as I study the science about fasting, I discovered it was less about what you eat and more about when

Another huge lie… Eat small meals throughout the day.

You may have heard that to lose weight. You should eat about six meals a day – small meals – in order to stoke the fires of your metabolism and keep your digestion rolling. this is also terrible advice especially for women over 50 and my research. I learned that every time a person eats even a small amount like cream and coffee or a few carrot sticks there insulin level spike the longer we can go without eating , the more the body has to burn and I’m simplifying the explanation here but that’s what’s happening so if you get up in the morning and only eat a quarter of a bagel with no cream cheese, your insulin will spike as if you ate the Denny’s grand slam breakfast with a side of pancakes  Your body will use the bagel for energy and not dip into your stores for hours. If you are eating small meals throughout the day, your body never utilizes your fat storage for energy. It only has time to use the food you ate all day long

The beauty of 20 hour intermittent fasting.

For most of us a 20 hour fast allows our body to use our fat storage and allow insulin levels to stay regulated – no spiking. This can lead to weight loss better mood energy and focus simplify for success instead of complicated menus and shopping list or expensive diet supplements we can lose weight with a simple plan. Here’s what my day looks like:

When you first tried the 20 hour fast just focus on a clean fast eat what you want during your four hour eating window you can worry about what to eat after you have mastered the win you will see and feel results with this approach, keep it simple!

Dear reader, have you tried intermittent fasting yet? Are you thinking about it? What do you have to lose except the weight that stubbornly holding on , you deserve better and you can do this. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist or a ribbon to successfully lose weight over 50 this is a no cost way to change your life again. What do you have to lose nothing but the weight frustration, shame, menopause symptoms, and anger over all the bad advice you’ve been given . I get it and I am rooting for you! You can do this! Dear reader, if you plan to do this, won’t you let me know? I love to cheer for you!
